WELCOME TO THE GARDEN DISTRICT BOOK SHOP

At The Garden District Book Shop, we're proud to bring people together through a shared love of books and community. Founded in 1979 by Britton Trice, the GDBS has hosted legendary authors like Anne Rice, James Lee Burke, Chuck Palahniuk, and Clive Barker. Since 2021, we—Barkley Rafferty and Carroll Gelderman—have been dedicated to keeping this special place thriving for both locals and visitors alike. We've since expanded the experience by adding Bar Epilogue, a unique bookshop bar that blends the best of literature and libations.

We primarily sell new books, offering a carefully curated selection across all genres to inspire every kind of reader. From literary fiction and nonfiction to cookbooks, children's stories, and the latest bestsellers, there’s something for everyone. In addition to new releases, we also have a collection of rare and signed editions, including out-of-print first editions and other collectible titles for those seeking something truly special. We've had the honor of hosting incredible authors, including Walter Isaacson, Laura Dern & Diane Ladd, Tamron Hall, the Bush twins, Steve Gleason, Caroline Chambers, Nini Nguyen, Ann Patchett, and Octavia Spencer.

Beyond books, we also run our neighboring restaurant, The Chicory House, and Bar Epilogue, a full cocktail bar inside the book shop—because what pairs better with a good book than a great drink?

Whether you’re here to browse, meet your favorite author, or just soak up the atmosphere, we can’t wait to welcome you.
